The Den / Home of She Devil Jiu Jitsu

    • Do I need to be in shape before I start?
Nope. That would be like cleaning your house before the cleaning lady comes. Come exactly as you are.
Getting stronger and more comfortable is part of the process.

    • I've never done jiu jitsu. Am I going to look stupid?
We all did. 😂 Nobody walks into their first class knowing what they're doing.
We expect beginners to be beginners, and we'll walk you through everything.

    • Am I too old / too big / too out of shape / too uncoordinated?
No. Seriously. We've got all kinds of bodies, ages and athletic abilities on our mats.
You don't have to become a “jiu jitsu person” before trying jiu jitsu.

    • Is She Devil really women only?
She Devil classes are for the ladies, yes! The first "Ladies First" Dojo in our area! Opened and run by female blackbelt, Bella Michele Milo.
The Den also has kids, teen and some coed classes and events. Check the schedule to see what's happening.

    • Do I have to roll/fight someone on my first day?
Absolutely not. You are always allowed to learn at your own pace.
Nobody is tossing you into Fight Club five minutes after you walk through the door.

    • What should I wear to my first class?
Comfortable workout clothes are perfect. Leggings/athletic pants or shorts and a T-shirt or fitted athletic top work great.
Nothing with zippers or anything sharp that could scratch your training partners. Sandals or slides are the easiest.

    • Do I need to buy a gi before I try it?
Nope. Don't go spending a bunch of money before you even know what you like.
Come try us first and we'll help you figure out what you need. We have loaners available in most sizes.

    • What if I have absolutely ZERO experience?
Even better. We love brand-new people. You don't need to know how to tie a belt,
shrimp across a mat, or even know what “shrimping” means. That's our job.

    • Can I just come watch a class first?
Of course. Come in, meet us, see the space and get a feel for The Den.
Although there's a pretty good chance we'll try to convince you to get on the mat. 😈

    • Is this one of those super-intense MMA gyms?
No. We train traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and we take learning seriously, but The Den isn't about proving who's the toughest person in the room.
We're here to learn, get stronger, laugh, sweat and take care of our training partners.

    • My daughter is shy/nervous. Can she still try?
PLEASE bring us the shy kids. She doesn't have to walk through the door confident.
That's something we can help her build.

    • Can parents stay and watch?
Yep. You're welcome to see what we're doing and get comfortable with us and the space.

    • Do you compete? Do I HAVE to compete?
Some of us compete. Some of us would rather eat glass. 😂 Competition is completely optional. You can train for fitness, self-defense, confidence,
friendship, competition—or just because choking your friends recreationally is surprisingly fun.

    • Is The Den beginner friendly?
Very. We remember what it felt like to walk onto the mats for the first time.
You won't be expected to “keep up.” We'll meet you where you are.

    • Will I get hurt?
Jiu jitsu is a contact sport, so bumps and bruises happen. But this isn't Cobra Kai. We emphasize control,
communication and taking care of our training partners. You can always sit something out or ask for another option.

    • Can I train if I'm nervous about being touched or grabbed?
Yes. Tell Bella. You don't owe anyone an explanation. We can modify things, pair you appropriately
and let you decide what you're comfortable participating in.

    • Okay... what the heck is a She Devil? 😈
A woman who decided she was capable of a whole lot more than she thought.
The horns are optional. The confidence tends to sneak up on you.
